We all know country stars blow us away with their skills at rocking the stage. But did you know that many of them also rock at giving back? Take a look at the amazing things your favorite stars do in their free time.
1. Miranda Lambert
Here at TumbleRoot, we absolutely love Miranda. We crank it up loud whenever one of her songs come on, and you can bet that we sing along to every word!
But now we have another reason to love Miranda. Just like every member of the TR family, Miranda loves them furbabies. Who doesn’t? In 2007, she held her first Cause for the Paws event to help the Humane Society of East Texas, raising enough funds to allow the shelter to drastically lower euthanasia rates. See their awesome and uplifting website here.
Miranda also has her own charity in Oklahoma (where she and hubby Blake Shelton now live) called TAILS – Texoma Animal Improved Living Society. Her non-profit helped open a shelter in Tishomingo, near her farm. The farm that also houses all of the wonderful animals Miranda has rescued herself, including horses, pigs, chickens, and – you guessed it – dogs!
2. Rascal Flatts
We remember the first Rascal Flatts song we loved (all those billions of years ago) and all of the ones since. Rascal Flatts has always had a beautiful way of bringing people together with their music.
Well it’s not just because of those mesmerizing harmonies, but because these guys genuinely care about people! The band’s three members, Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney, are members of the Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet. They also support the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, and have raised more than $3 million for the facility. In 2010, in recognition of their efforts, the hospital named its Pediatric Surgery Center after the trio. The Rascal Flatts Surgery Center includes a new specialized radiology suite, allowing expanded services to be offered to patients.
Check out the hospital’s website featuring some adorable videos of children in love with Rascal Flatts here.
3. Garth Brooks
We grew up with Garth’s music and still get excited when we hear his greatest hits from the ‘90s. There are so many great reasons to look up to this incredible guy. Here are just a few:
In 1999, Garth along with Bo Mitchell established the Teammates for Kids Foundation. Starting with baseball players, the team has grown to include more than 3,000 professional athletes. Since Teammates was founded, they have raised more than $80 million to help kids across more than 60 countries. How does it work? An athlete makes a pledge based on their performance, and then the foundation’s board TRIPLES this donation. Want to know the best part? 100% goes to the kids! Teammates’ mission reads: 100% of all money donated goes to the kids. That’s not the goal … it’s the rule!
How are they able to give 100%? That’s our favorite part. When Teammates was started, Garth and a core group of professionals and giving angels pledged to take care of the overhead. All advertising, payroll, and administrative costs are taken care of. We think that’s pretty amazing.
4. Taylor Swift
Taylor never disappoints with her great performances, great music, and great outfits. And she certainly doesn’t disappoint with her charitable efforts. Are you ready for all the good T-Swizzle does? Get ready.
Let’s start with education. In 2010, she donated $75,000 to Nashville’s Hendersonville High School to help refurbish the school auditorium’s sound and lighting systems. In 2012, she pledged $4 million to fund the building of a new education center at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. The 7,500-square-foot building is scheduled to open in 2014 and will facilitate new programs and workshops for teenagers and senior citizens. The space will include three classrooms and an exhibit space, and will house interactive activities such as a musical petting zoo and a “wet” classroom space to make concert posters and other art projects. Museum officials have decided to name it The Taylor Swift Education Center and T-Swift will be involved in an advisory capacity.
Taylor has also donated to many other charities. She has assisted victims of natural disaster, fought against LGBT discrimination, aided sick children, and numerous other causes. We could write a book on all the good this lady does.
Basically, T-Swizz is super awesome and you should love her as much as we do.
