Seize the day, people! Seize. The. Day.
The dictionary defines carpe diem as: the enjoyment of the pleasures of the moment without concern for the future.
I wear a silver ring on my left hand that says Carpe Diem, and this lovely TumbleRoot necklace too.
Two constant little reminders to go out there and…
Well, that’s debatable. What does ‘seizing the day’ even mean?
Seizing the day could mean simply trying something new, or finally taking care of something you’ve been meaning to do.
It could mean blasting your favorite song on the drive to work. Or maybe it means playing hookey for the day. Does sleeping in and eating breakfast after noon still count as seizing the day? I mean, probably…
Seizing the day should mean finishing that book you’ve been reading off and on for weeks (months?), going to the lake or the beach, riding your bike, eating something sweet, at least a little dancing, a good, long laugh, some singing, a nap, puppies (because why not?), and adventures!
John Wayne once said…
“Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.”
And he’s right, you know. Tomorrow’s important. Tomorrow, we oughtta know better. But what if there is no tomorrow? That leaves us with only today. And today… By God, we’re seizing today. It’s Friday! Here’s to seizing the weekend!
